The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Senegalese News Agency sign a memorandum of understanding on media cooperation

Banjul (UNA) - The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Senegalese News Agency signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of media, on the sidelines of the fifteenth session of the Islamic Summit Conference held on May 4 and 5, 2024.

The memorandum of understanding aims to enhance cooperation between the two sides in the areas of working groups, media content and information exchange, databases, information collection, vocational training, and increasing the spotlight on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in the media. The memorandum of understanding was signed by Dr. Abdelhamid Salihi, Acting Director of the Department of Information Affairs of the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and Mr. Tierno Ahmadou Sy, Director-General of the Senegalese News Agency.

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding is an important step in strengthening relations between the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and Senegal, a founding member state of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

The Acting Director of the Department of Information Affairs of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation stressed the essential role of the media in promoting common values, dialogue and solidarity between Islamic peoples and countries.

The Director General of the Senegalese News Agency expressed his gratitude to the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation for its support and cooperation. He also stressed the readiness of the Senegalese News Agency to contribute to disseminating information about the activities, initiatives and achievements of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in addressing the challenges facing the Islamic world.

The two parties agreed to implement the memorandum of understanding as soon as possible and to meet regularly to evaluate the progress achieved and identify areas for improvement.

The memorandum of understanding comes within the framework of the efforts made by the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to strengthen the bonds of cooperation with national and international media in order to reflect a true image of the Islamic world and to confront negative campaigns aimed at distorting its reputation.
