  Indonesia's Deputy Minister of Multilateral Cooperation visits COMSTECH to strengthen bilateral cooperation in several strategic areas

ISLAMABAD (UNA) – Ambassador Tri Tharoit, Deputy Minister of Multilateral Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, today, April 17, 2025, visited the headquarters of the Secretariat of the Standing Committee for Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (COMSTECH) in Islamabad.

In his welcoming remarks to the Ambassador, COMSTECH Coordinator General Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Chowdhury highlighted Indonesia's special status as a founding member of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and an important partner of COMSTECH, citing its prominent role in promoting science and technology in the Islamic world.

A meeting was then held, focusing on enhancing bilateral cooperation in several strategic areas. Dr. Chowdhury proposed cooperation in the healthcare sector, establishing an OIC Center of Excellence and a National Medicines Regulatory Authority in Indonesia, and organizing a Techno-Fest for OIC Member States in Indonesia to promote technological exchange and innovation.

Discussions addressed the continuation and expansion of the COMSTECH Indonesia Virology Program, and the inclusion of Indonesian higher education institutions, research and development institutions, and industry in COMSTECH's key initiatives, such as research fellowships, technician training programs, and the Palestinian scholarship program.

The two sides also stressed the importance of mutual visits between pharmaceutical industry leaders to enhance cooperation.

Ambassador Tri Tharoit expressed his appreciation for COMSTECH's continued contributions, particularly in the fields of science and technology, health, and higher education, reaffirming Indonesia's commitment to strengthening its role in the COMSTECH Consortium of Centers of Excellence and emphasizing Indonesia's continued contribution to the social and economic development of OIC member states.

The Ambassador also expressed his desire to encourage greater participation of Indonesian universities and R&D institutions in COMSTECH programmes.
