The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation congratulates Hussein Al-Sheikh on his election as Vice-Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization and Vice-President of the State of Palestine.

Jeddah (UNA) – The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hussein Ibrahim Taha, congratulated Mr. Hussein Al-Sheikh on his appointment as Vice-Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Vice-President of the State of Palestine.

In a written message, the Secretary-General expressed his confidence that the new role and responsibilities he assumes constitute a bridge to strengthen Palestinian national unity, based on commitment to the Palestine Liberation Organization, the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people, its political program, and its international obligations. This, he said, is a solid guarantee to confront the enormous challenges imposed by the Israeli occupation, and an important pillar for moving forward to enable the Palestinian people to realize their legitimate rights to the sovereignty of their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.

The Secretary-General also reiterated the OIC's constant and unwavering support for the rights of the Palestinian people and their just cause, wishing Mr. Hussein Al-Sheikh every success in his national mission and wishing Palestine and its people freedom, sovereignty, and independence.
