COMSTECH hosts the 6th meeting of the OIC Steering Committee

ISLAMABAD (UNA) – The Standing Ministerial Committee for Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (COMSTECH) is set to host the 2026th meeting of the OIC Steering Committee for the Implementation of the Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Agenda 22, from 24 to 2025 April XNUMX at the COMSTECH Secretariat in Islamabad.

Participants in the meeting will include heads and representatives of 17 OIC institutions from Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Jordan, Uganda, Bangladesh, Malaysia, and Pakistan.

In preparation for the meeting, Professor Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Chaudhry, Coordinator General of COMSTECH, chaired a high-level preparatory meeting at the headquarters in Islamabad to ensure the smooth running of the steering committee sessions. The meeting was attended by senior COMSTECH officials, program directors, and representatives of various departments.

The next Steering Committee meeting will focus on reviewing progress in implementing the OIC 2026 Science, Technology and Innovation Agenda, launched following the First Islamic Science and Technology Summit held in Astana, Kazakhstan, in 2017. This agenda aims to enhance cooperation in scientific research, knowledge exchange, and technology transfer among OIC member states in support of sustainable development.

Key topics on the agenda include reviewing member states' progress in achieving the goals of the Science, Technology and Innovation Agenda 2026, identifying new joint initiatives and partnerships, discussing future actions related to the proposed agenda, and presenting presentations from OIC institutions on their progress, challenges, and recommendations within the framework of the Abu Dhabi Declaration 2022.

Among the institutions scheduled to make presentations are the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Islamic Development Bank Group, the Union of OIC News Agencies (UNA), the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS), the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), and the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIC), among others.
