Jeddah (UNA) – The Islamic world celebrates the 15th day of Ramadan each year as Orphan Day in the Islamic World. This day was designated in accordance with the decision adopted by the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation during its 2013th session in Conakry, Republic of Guinea, in December XNUMX. The purpose of this occasion is to raise awareness of the issues and needs of orphans.
On this occasion, the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Mr. Hussein Ibrahim Taha, highlighted the importance of continuing efforts to support comprehensive care and orphan care. He called for enhanced efforts to protect them, particularly during disasters, in conflict zones, and in areas affected by climate change, where displacement and refugee crises have left many children in vulnerable situations.
The Secretary-General emphasized that the OIC will continue its commitment to stand in solidarity with millions of orphans and children in difficult situations by defending their rights and providing them with the best support systems, such as orphanages, strengthening care systems, and implementing health and education services. This is an important step that will motivate governments, communities, and institutions to move forward with sustainable solutions.
Islam, through the Qur’an and the Sunnah, has strongly emphasized the importance of treating orphans kindly and ensuring their care, education, healthcare, social welfare, protection of their rights, and provision of appropriate upbringing.
