OIC continues to discuss new statute for humanitarian funds

Jeddah (UNA) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held at its headquarters in Jeddah today, Tuesday, February 4, 2025, the fourth meeting of the Open-Ended Group of Governmental Experts to continue discussions on the draft statute of the OIC’s humanitarian funds.

In his speech to the meeting, delivered on his behalf by the Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian, Cultural and Social Affairs, Ambassador Tariq Ali Bakhit, the Secretary-General of the Organization, Mr. Hussein Ibrahim Taha, stated that the meeting is being held while many member states are witnessing the continuation and exacerbation of extremely complex humanitarian conditions in light of the decline in international humanitarian support due to funding difficulties, which requires concerted efforts and joint action to adopt everything that would help contain these humanitarian crises and tribulations in the Islamic world.

The speech stressed that failure to meet these urgent humanitarian needs will prolong the suffering of the affected population and could lead to instability and insecurity.

Ambassador Tariq Ali Bakhit expressed his aspiration to exert all possible efforts to complete the basic system of these funds, make the necessary reforms to their working mechanism, and support them with the necessary financial resources so that they can fully play their role in serving the humanitarian issues of the organization.
