OIC Secretary General addresses UNA Executive Council, praises its media development

Jeddah (UNA) – The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Mr. Hussein Ibrahim Taha, delivered a speech during the 23th session of the Executive Council of the Union of OIC News Agencies (UNA), which was held virtually, today, Thursday, January 2025, XNUMX.

The session was opened by Mr. Ali bin Abdullah Al-Zaid, Vice-Chairman of the Executive Council and General Assembly of the Union and President of the Saudi Press Agency, representing Mr. Salman bin Yousef Al-Dosari, Chairman of the Executive Council and General Assembly of the Union, Minister of Information of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Minister Dr. Ahmed Assaf, Minister of Official Information of Palestine, and Mr. Mohammed Abd Rabbuh Al-Yami, Director General of the Union of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (UNA), also delivered speeches during the opening session of the session.

The Secretary-General said that in light of the world's rapid technological boom in the field of media and communication, and the amazing developments in the capabilities of modern media, especially social media platforms and artificial intelligence to support media work, the organization must highly appreciate the development of work and the tangible success achieved by the Union in the past few years.

The Secretary-General welcomed the media projects undertaken by the Union to support the media work of the Organization, enhance the media visibility of the Organization and its permanent presence on various occasions, and develop the infrastructure of the news agencies of the member states of the Organization, which are in dire need of this, noting that this is done by providing specialized training courses to hone the skills of journalists in various fields of media, as well as to support the interfaces of news agencies on the Internet and social media platforms to enable them to keep pace with the challenges and requirements of the era, and to provide added value and great services to the peoples of the Islamic world in their various languages ​​and cultures.

In his speech, the Secretary-General noted the great efforts made by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and his loyal Crown Prince, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Prime Minister, expressing his thanks to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its continuous support for the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

The Secretary-General also expressed his appreciation for the purposeful media partnerships that the Union has established over the past period, and the resulting memoranda of understanding with a number of local and international institutions.
