Jeddah (UNA) – The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hussein Ibrahim Taha, participated in the commemorative photo exhibition organized by the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Turkey to the OIC to commemorate the courage of loyal patriots and martyrs as a result of the failed coup attempt against Turkish democracy on July 15, 2016. The opening ceremony of the exhibition was held at the headquarters of the OIC General Secretariat in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on July 10, 2024, and the exhibition will continue until July 15.
The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation chaired the event, where he delivered a speech in support of the victory of democracy in the Republic of Turkey, one of the founding members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Turkey to the Organization, Ambassador Cenk Oraz, and the Consul General of the Republic of Turkey in Jeddah, Mustafa Onal, also participated in this event, and it was attended by the Permanent Representatives of the Member States of the Organization, the Consuls General, the Assistant Secretaries-General of the Organization, the Director-General of the Bureau, and other employees of the Organization.
“Democracy and National Unity Day, July 15,” is considered one of the official holidays in Turkey, in memory of the victims of the failed coup attempt committed by the Fethullah terrorist organization in 2016 and in commemoration of the victory of democracy.
During the forty-third session of the Council of Foreign Ministers held in Tashkent, on October 18 and 19, 2016, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation adopted a resolution condemning the violent coup attempt carried out by the Fethullah Gulen organization and calling on member states to take all necessary measures to confront this terrorist organization. .
