The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation participates in the oral arguments of the International Court of Justice

Jeddah (UNA) - The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Hussein Ibrahim Taha, heads a delegation from the Organization’s General Secretariat heading to The Hague in order to participate in presenting the organization’s oral argument before the International Court of Justice on February 26, 2024 AD, which is expected to issue the legal opinion at the request of The United Nations General Assembly on the legal consequences of the Israeli occupation arising from Israel’s continued violation of the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, and from its long-term occupation of the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem.

It should be noted that the organization had submitted a written legal pleading to the court on July 25, 2023, as well as comments on the pleadings submitted to the court by states and other international organizations on October 25, 2023, confirming the illegitimacy of the Israeli occupation and its policies based on colonial settlement, forced displacement, and racial discrimination. , confiscating lands, and demolishing Palestinian homes, in flagrant violation of international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.

25 member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation are scheduled to present their pleadings during the hearings held by the International Court of Justice throughout the period from 19-26 February.
