In his speech at the opening session of the General Assembly held in Baku, Azerbaijan on November 22, 2023, the Secretary-General also stressed that the new institution will effectively complement the ongoing cooperation activities of the OIC General Secretariat in the areas of trade and investment, agriculture, food security, and tourism. , education, science and technology, health, and others.
Hussein Taha praised Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, for the leadership spirit and farsightedness he demonstrated when he proposed the establishment of the center in his speech at the Second Conference of Labor Ministers of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, which was held in Baku, Azerbaijan, on April 25 and 26, 2013. .
The opening session also witnessed a speech by His Excellency Mr. Suhail Babayev, Minister of Labor and Social Protection of Population of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
During the session, candidates were elected for various key positions in the OIC Action Centre, including the President, Vice-President and members of the Executive Council.
The meeting also elected Mr. Azar Bayramov as Director General of the OIC Action Centre.
The session also approved the temporary organizational structure of the Center and the budget of its secretariat for the period 2023-2026. It should be noted that the Republic of Azerbaijan provided a generous grant of one million US dollars as a voluntary donation to the budget of the new center.
