The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation reaffirms its support for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan

Jeddah (UNA) - The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation condemned the series of military provocations and large-scale terrorist attacks carried out by the Armenian armed forces stationed in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan on September 19, and condemned the killing of civilians as a result of the explosion of landmines planted by Armenian reconnaissance and sabotage groups in Karabakh.

The General Secretariat expressed its deep condolences to the families of the victims, the government and the people of Azerbaijan, and wished the wounded a speedy recovery.

The General Secretariat also called on the Republic of Armenia to fulfill its obligations in accordance with the tripartite statement signed between Azerbaijan, Armenia and the Russian Federation on November 10, 2020, as well as the agreements reached between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and to withdraw the Armenian armed forces in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan in accordance with the provisions of the tripartite statement.

The General Secretariat said that as the General Secretariat recalls the decision taken by the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation at its forty-ninth session held in Nouakchott, Islamic Republic of Mauritania, on March 16 and 17, 2023, it calls for the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia on the basis of mutual recognition. And respect for the other party’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and internationally recognized borders.

The General Secretariat stressed that ensuring the continuation of the comprehensive negotiation process between Azerbaijan and Armenia is the only way to bring lasting peace, security, prosperity and stability to the region.
