
New York (UNA) - The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Hussein Ibrahim Taha, met on September 19, 2023, on the sidelines of his participation in the meetings of the United Nations General Assembly at its seventy-eighth session in New York, with the Foreign Minister of Sweden, Tobias Billström.
During this meeting, the Secretary-General informed the Swedish Minister of the unified position of the member states that rejects and condemns the repetition of crimes of burning and desecrating copies of the Holy Qur’an, according to what was stated in the decision issued by the eighteenth special session of the Council of Foreign Ministers, which was held on July 31, 2023. The Secretary-General called again The Swedish authorities need to take practical measures to prevent the recurrence of these crimes.
For his part, the Swedish Minister renewed his government's absolute rejection of these despicable and provocative acts, noting that as a result, his government began looking into the Public Order Law to explore means to find a solution to this issue. The minister stressed that his country's government is open to dialogue and cooperation with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
