Jeddah (UNA) – The Information Office of Yunnan Province of the People's Republic of China, in cooperation with the Chinese Consulate General in Jeddah and the provincial Foreign Affairs Office, organized a media event today titled "Following Zheng He's Footsteps to Saudi Arabia."
The event aimed to highlight the deep historical ties between China and the Arabian Peninsula, recalling the voyages of the famous 15th-century Chinese navigator Zheng He. Born in Yunnan, he commanded a fleet that reached the Red Sea, from where he sailed to Jeddah and the cities of Mecca and Medina, serving as a bridge for cultural communication and trade between China and the Islamic world.
The event coincided with the 620th anniversary of Zheng He's voyages and the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Saudi Arabia, adding a special dimension to the event. Participants emphasized the importance of enhancing cultural and economic exchange between the two countries, drawing on their shared historical heritage.
Zheng He is considered one of the most prominent figures in the history of global navigation, having led seven sea voyages that contributed to promoting dialogue between civilizations and strengthening the bonds of friendship between peoples.
