Central Bank of Jordan hosts CIBAFI technical workshop on governance and compliance for Islamic financial institutions

 Amman (UNA) – As part of its ongoing efforts to enhance governance and compliance, the General Council for Islamic Banks and Financial Institutions (CIBAFI) launched its first specialized technical workshop of the year, hosted by the Central Bank of Jordan in Amman. The two-day workshop, held in Arabic, focuses on the role of governance in enhancing transparency and sustainability within Islamic banks and financial institutions.

The workshop witnessed the participation of a number of representatives of regulatory bodies, supervisory authorities, international organizations, and employees of Islamic banks and financial institutions, where governance and compliance topics were discussed within the framework of the characteristics of Islamic finance. The program was carefully designed to focus on modern trends and practical applications in this field, most notably governance standards and their impact on Islamic banks, understanding the relationship between governance and risk management, and compliance monitoring objectives, while reviewing the role of technology in effectively enhancing governance frameworks.

The workshop was opened by Mr. Mahmoud Al-Subaihat, Advisor to the Banking Supervision Department at the Central Bank of Jordan, who stressed the importance of providing those working in the Islamic financial sector with basic skills in governance and compliance. He pointed out that hosting this workshop embodies the fruitful cooperation with the General Council in promoting best practices and building a sustainable Islamic financial sector.

On the other hand, Ms. Zainab Al-Awinati, Director of Administrative and Financial Affairs at the General Council, stressed the close cooperation with the Central Bank of Jordan to support and develop best practices in the field of governance and compliance in the Arab world in general, and Jordan in particular, indicating the efforts made to qualify human cadres in the Islamic financial services industry, especially in important and vital topics that would contribute to facing the renewed challenges witnessed by the Islamic financial sector.

The workshop was presented by Mr. Majid Al Gharsali, Director of Compliance and Sharia Review, Zitouna Bank, Tunisia, with the participation of Dr. Abu Dhar Mohammed, Senior Specialist in Islamic Finance, Islamic Development Bank Institute, Saudi Arabia, as an elite forum to enrich the discussion and exchange professional experiences.

 This initiative reflects the commitment of the General Council and the Central Bank of Jordan to develop the Islamic financial sector, and support cooperation between financial institutions, with a focus on raising the level of efficiency and professionalism, and enhancing the ability of Islamic financial institutions to face challenges and achieve sustainable growth.
