An agreement to freeze oil production

Doha (INA) – Oil producers meeting in Doha on Sunday agreed that the average daily production of crude oil per month should not exceed the levels recorded in January this year, according to a copy of the draft agreement seen by Reuters and reported by Sky News Arabia. The draft says: The freeze will continue until the first of October of this year, and that producers will meet again in Russia in October to review the progress that has been made in achieving a steady recovery in oil prices. No final agreement was reached on the draft, but several senior sources in the oil ministries of these countries said they were optimistic about reaching an agreement. The draft says: Producers will continue to develop the process of consultation among themselves on the best ways to strengthen the oil market, and that the agreement will be open to other countries to join it. And Saudi Arabia had agreed earlier to freeze its production, provided that the rest of the OPEC members take a similar step. OPEC member Iran said it would not take part in Sunday's meeting because it could not accept proposals to freeze its output. (End) pg/h p
