(Harf) is a language competition directed at non-Arab Arabic-speaking students enrolled in Arabic language institutes and units in Saudi public and private universities, Arabic language teaching centers for non-native speakers, and similar entities. The competition seeks to achieve the strategic objectives of the Academy in promoting the dissemination of Arabic language culture, in line with the objectives of the Human Capacity Development Program (one of the programs for achieving Saudi Vision 2030).
Through this competition, the complex aims to highlight the beauty and richness of the language, and encourage learners to use it in creative and innovative ways. The competition aspires to create a competitive environment among learners that encourages them to excel in Arabic language skills; to master it in terms of knowledge, learning and performance, and to enhance its presence in the cultural and global scene. Its outcomes aim to improve the level of Arabic language proficiency among learners through challenges and competitions, discover and develop their linguistic talents, and enhance cultural and civilizational communication by sharing experiences and skills.
Three categories have been identified for participation in the competition: the advanced category for graduate students (master’s and above), the intermediate category for undergraduate students, and the initial category for owners of emerging ideas and novice participants. The competition has four diverse fields: lexical ability, language and technology, language and cultural communication, and research paper.
It is worth mentioning here that the Academy sought, in organizing the second edition of the (Harf) competition, to emphasize the importance of the Arabic language, highlight the role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in spreading it and enhancing its global position, strengthen relations between the educational institutions participating in the competition, enhance the Academy’s message in teaching Arabic to non-native speakers, preserve the integrity of the Arabic language and its linguistic identity, support it in pronunciation and writing, and facilitate its learning and teaching inside and outside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
