UNESCO selects Baghdad as the first Arab city for literary creativity

Baghdad (INA) – The Iraqi Ministry of Culture revealed that Baghdad was chosen as a city for literary creativity within the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, after it was nominated from among 47 cities from 33 countries as new members representing various creative fields. The Director General of the Public Cultural Relations Department at the Ministry of Culture, and a member of the National Committee for Education, Culture and Science, Falah Al-Ani, said in a statement to the Department of Media and Governmental and Mass Communication at the Ministry of Culture: The cultural and popular circles welcomed with great joy the inclusion of the city of Baghdad by UNESCO within the network of creative cities in literature field. Pointing out that Baghdad will thus be the first city in the field of literature and chosen among the Arab countries, and the only one from the continent of Asia as well as Africa. Al-Arabiya.net quoted Al-Ani as saying: The Ministry of Culture worked in coordination with many institutions for months to prepare a file for the nomination of the capital, Baghdad, as the first Arab city to join the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, especially since cities' membership in the network was restricted to foreign countries only.
