Saudi Green Initiative Dialogues Review Charity Work Successes and Initiative’s Role in Strengthening Society

Riyadh (UNA/SPA) - The fourth day of the Saudi Green Initiative Dialogues, which is being held in conjunction with the activities of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (COP16) held in Riyadh, witnessed a discussion under the title “Dialogue in Charitable Work”, which brought together Princess Lamia bint Majed, Secretary-General of Alwaleed Philanthropies, and Hala Al-Barrak, Foreign Affairs Advisor at the Ministry of Economy and Planning.

The session provided an in-depth view of charitable activities in all their forms, highlighting the various aspects related to charitable work, which constitutes an important axis in line with the goals of the Saudi Green Initiative in enhancing the quality of life and protecting the environment, thus contributing to achieving quality of life and sustainable development.

Princess Lamia stressed the importance of adopting a clear vision, building strong partnerships, and conducting in-depth data analysis in order to develop thoughtful strategies and evaluate their impact.

She said: “Alwaleed Philanthropies is keen to study the nature of societies carefully, to understand the customs and traditions followed therein, in order to ensure the formulation of initiatives that are in line with their needs.”

Princess Lamia spoke about the importance of collecting data to develop thoughtful strategies and evaluate progress made in implementing them, stressing the role of non-governmental and non-profit organizations in raising community awareness of the effects of climate change.

“I believe it is our duty to contribute to raising community awareness of the factors affecting climate change,” she said.

“Last year, we launched Atlay, an innovative AI-powered platform to monitor and document deforestation and tree planting around the world, and send relevant reports to governments, activists and journalists.”

She explained that the platform has so far recorded more than 35 reports, and its website has received more than one million visits, reflecting the great interest in this innovative initiative.

In terms of practices that individuals can adopt to contribute positively to charitable work, Princess Lamia stressed the importance of the spirit of initiative and responsibility among members of society, saying: “In many areas, members of society are taking the initiative to adopt positive practices, such as placing dedicated recycling bins, and such simple steps contribute to encouraging more people to take the initiative to implement similar activities.”

“I would like to encourage everyone to believe in their ability to make a positive impact in society,” she added.

The Saudi Green Initiative Dialogues are held daily at 3:00 pm at the Saudi Green Initiative Pavilion. Tomorrow’s session consists of two parts under the title “Ideas Worth Discussion”, with the participation of HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud, Co-Founder and CEO of Baraka App, and Founder and CEO of Mukuru Clean Stoves Charlotte Magai.
