Riyadh (UNA/SPA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement today, the text of which is as follows:
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia indicates that the military movements in the governorates of (Hadramawt and Al-Mahra) recently carried out by the Southern Transitional Council were unilateral and without the approval of the Presidential Leadership Council or coordination with the Coalition leadership, which led to an unjustified escalation that harmed the interests of the Yemeni people in all its categories, the southern cause, and the efforts of the Coalition.
Throughout the past period, the Kingdom has preferred to focus on unity and to exert all efforts to reach peaceful solutions to address the situation in the two governorates.
In this context, the Kingdom worked with the sisterly United Arab Emirates, the President of the Presidential Leadership Council, and the sisterly Yemeni government to contain the situation. A joint military team from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates was sent to make the necessary arrangements with the Southern Transitional Council in Aden, ensuring the return of the Southern Transitional Council forces to their previous positions outside the two governorates and the handover of the camps therein to the Homeland Shield forces and the local authority in accordance with organized procedures under the supervision of the Coalition forces.
These efforts are still ongoing to restore the situation to what it was, and the Kingdom is still counting on the public interest to prevail by having the Transitional Council take the initiative to end the escalation and for its forces to withdraw smoothly and urgently from the two governorates.
The Kingdom emphasizes the importance of cooperation among all Yemeni forces and factions to exercise restraint and avoid any actions that could destabilize security and stability, which could have dire consequences. The Kingdom also stresses the need to exert all efforts to restore peace and social security.
The Kingdom affirms that the southern issue is a just cause with historical and social dimensions, and it will be resolved by all Yemeni parties sitting down at the dialogue table within the framework of a comprehensive political solution in Yemen.
The Kingdom also affirms its support for the President, the Presidential Leadership Council, and the Yemeni government in achieving security, stability, development, and peace in the Republic of Yemen.
