The State of Qatar is among the top five donors of humanitarian aid to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs for 2025.

New York (UNA/QNA) – The State of Qatar expressed its pride in being among the top five major donor countries in providing humanitarian aid contributions to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs for 2025, with a total of more than 528 billion US dollars, reflecting the utmost importance that the State of Qatar attaches to humanitarian response.

This came in a statement by the State of Qatar, delivered by Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, before the General Assembly of the United Nations on Item 72 on strengthening the coordination of humanitarian assistance provided by the United Nations in emergencies, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

She stressed that the General Assembly is convening to consider the item on strengthening the coordination of humanitarian assistance provided by the United Nations system at a time when a number of regions of the world are facing extremely dangerous humanitarian situations, particularly in the Gaza Strip, where humanitarian needs are escalating to an unprecedented degree due to the Israeli aggression in the Strip.

She added that, in accordance with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, the State of Qatar launched a land bridge of humanitarian aid last October in response to the urgent needs to alleviate the suffering of the brotherly Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip. This aid was delivered through the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Arab Republic of Egypt. She noted that this initiative follows the signing of the document ending the war in the Gaza Strip during the Sharm El-Sheikh Summit. She further stated that the State of Qatar emphasizes the necessity of fully consolidating the ceasefire, ending the suffering of civilians, ensuring the unrestricted and unimpeded entry of humanitarian aid, and commencing early recovery and reconstruction efforts.

The Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations pointed out that the tragic humanitarian situation in the city of El Fasher in the sisterly Republic of Sudan, and the difficult conditions in which civilians live due to a severe shortage of food and an increasing need for shelter and basic materials as a result of the armed conflict, prompted the State of Qatar to send relief and humanitarian aid last November to support the displaced people from the city of El Fasher in Darfur and the neighboring areas.

She noted that the State of Qatar emphasizes in this context the need for the Rapid Support Forces to fulfill their duty to protect civilians, ensure the safe delivery of humanitarian aid, and adhere to international humanitarian law as stated in the Jeddah Declaration.

She explained that from 2013 until October 2025, the State of Qatar provided US$1.9 billion in support of the general budget and core contributions to the United Nations agencies, regional offices and initiatives, adding that, based on the existing partnership between the State of Qatar and the United Nations, the State of Qatar provided multi-year support for the core resources of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs during the period from 2017 to 2026 with a total amount of US$88 million to enhance its ability to implement its mandate.
Her Excellency noted that yesterday it was announced that the State of Qatar has renewed its support for the Central Emergency Response Fund for 2026, bringing the total support provided by the State of Qatar to the Fund since its establishment to more than US$22 million.

The Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations added that the worsening humanitarian conditions in many crisis areas necessitate intensifying diplomatic efforts to provide an environment that facilitates urgent and unconditional access to humanitarian aid, with the aim of saving millions from human suffering, especially civilians. She pointed out that this requires a regional and international effort in prioritizing humanitarian work and protecting humanitarian workers, as they are the main drivers of delivering humanitarian aid.

She explained that the State of Qatar joined last September the Declaration on the Protection of Humanitarian Workers, an initiative led by Australia, and also joined the global initiative launched by the International Committee of the Red Cross on promoting and respecting international humanitarian law.

The statement concluded by affirming that the State of Qatar will continue its efforts to promote humanitarian diplomacy, to alleviate human suffering and preserve human dignity.
