Pakistan and Malaysia agree to enhance bilateral cooperation and sign six memoranda of understanding.

ISLAMABAD (UNA/APP) – Pakistan and Malaysia on Monday agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields, including trade, investment, education, and halal products, as well as anti-corruption efforts. Malaysia announced its intention to import halal meat from Pakistan worth $200 million.

This came during a joint press conference held by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his Malaysian counterpart, Anwar Ibrahim, in the capital, Kuala Lumpur.

Shahbaz Sharif, who is making his first official visit to Malaysia, affirmed Pakistan's commitment to strengthening close cooperation with Malaysia and benefiting from its expertise, pointing to the possibility of establishing joint projects in the fields of agriculture, information technology, and vocational training. He also commended Malaysia's announcement to import halal meat from Pakistan, praising Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's vision for leading his country toward sustainability, innovation, scientific research, and prosperity.

For his part, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim affirmed that relations between Pakistan and Malaysia are strong and deeply rooted, extending to education, defense, and other areas, with continued expansion in economic cooperation. He pointed to the great potential for enhancing cooperation between the two countries in defense, agriculture, digital technologies, energy, and emerging sectors, appreciating Pakistan's supportive stance on the Palestinian cause and the developments in the Gaza Strip.

Ibrahim stressed that Malaysia and Pakistan renewed their call for concrete measures to end the suffering of the Palestinian people.

In the same context, Pakistan and Malaysia signed six memoranda of understanding on Monday to enhance bilateral cooperation in the fields of education, halal products, tourism, and anti-corruption. The signing ceremony took place at the Malaysian Prime Minister's Office in Kuala Lumpur, in the presence of Shehbaz Sharif and Anwar Ibrahim.
