ISLAMABAD (UNA) – The Standing Committee for Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (COMSTECH) continues to strengthen its partnerships with China in the fields of science, technology, and health, reflecting the importance of international scientific cooperation and the growing strategic partnership between the two sides.
Professor Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Chaudhry, Coordinator General of COMSTECH, highlighted the various collaborative initiatives between COMSTECH and China in the fields of science, technology, and health during a ceremony held today in Islamabad.
He also expressed his appreciation for the contributions of Professor Dr. Xinmin Liu, a prominent Chinese scientist, to promoting scientific cooperation between China and Pakistan over the past 25 years. Dr. Liu has played a key role in training Pakistani researchers in advanced scientific fields, as well as establishing the Pakistan Center for Traditional Medicine.
He stated that Dr. Shenmin was awarded the Quaid-e-Azam Stamp in recognition of his efforts, which is one of Pakistan's highest civilian awards given to foreigners.
Professor Dr. Iqbal Chaudhry noted that COMSTECH plays a pivotal role in implementing OIC resolutions related to science, technology, health, agriculture, higher education, and climate change.
He explained that China and COMSTECH seek to strengthen scientific partnerships in key areas such as space medicine research, higher education, and innovation-led economic growth. Chinese universities, such as Xinjiang Medical University, Ningbo University, and Hunan University of Chinese Medicine, are training Pakistani researchers at the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences, Hamdard University, and the University of Lahore, strengthening educational ties between the two countries. He expected these initiatives to contribute to enhancing Pakistan's research capabilities, attracting investment, and driving technological progress.
For his part, Professor Dr. Xinmin Liu expressed his gratitude to the Government of Pakistan for awarding him this prestigious civilian award.
He commended COMSTECH's continued support for enhancing scientific cooperation between OIC member states and China, stressing the importance of continued cooperation in developing research and innovation.
