Riyadh (UNA/SPA) - The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia hosted the meeting of the Executive Committee and the International Steering Committee of the Global Research Council, at the headquarters of King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST).
At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Munir bin Mahmoud Al-Dasouki, Vice-Chair of the Board of Governors of the Global Research Council and a member of the Board of Governors for the Middle East and North Africa region, welcomed the Acting Secretary-General of the Council and the members participating in person and via virtual channels from various regions of the world.
The participants reviewed the scientific program and the Kingdom’s preparations to host the 18th annual meeting of the Global Research Council, which will be held for the first time since the Council was established in the Middle East and North Africa region, in the capital, Riyadh, during the period from May 22-2025, XNUMX, organized by the Research, Development and Innovation Authority and King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, in partnership with the Scientific and Technological Research Council of the Republic of Turkey. The meeting will discuss two topics: “Research Management in the Age of Artificial Intelligence” and “Joint Creative Work to Confront Global Challenges towards Achieving Sustainable Development.”
The participants reviewed the future directions of the Council, the reports of the various working groups, in addition to the mechanisms for benefiting from the Council’s various principle statements and transforming them into executive plans that enable research councils to formulate various policies.
Participants discussed reports from the five member regions of the Global Research Council, including Europe, Asia-Pacific, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the Middle East and North Africa, and the Council’s role in strategic planning for research funding, in addition to discussing the Board of Directors’ agenda and future proposals for hosting the Council’s Secretariat in one of the member councils.
The Kingdom’s hosting of the Global Research Council meeting confirms its prominent position and scientific institutions, and its distinguished efforts at the regional and global levels to serve research, development and innovation issues. It also highlights the Kingdom’s ongoing efforts to enhance cooperation between research councils in the Middle East and North Africa region, which enhances its presence and contributes to the advancement of knowledge and innovation at the global level, in light of the unprecedented support witnessed by the research, development and innovation sector in the Kingdom by the wise leadership, in addition to the Kingdom’s commitment to enhancing joint work and achieving global strategic goals in the fields of research, development and innovation.
