
Riyadh (UNA/SPA) - The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassim Mohammed Al-Badawi, welcomed the convening of the Syrian National Dialogue Conference, considering it a serious and valuable step to contribute to achieving the aspirations of the brotherly Syrian people towards security, stability and prosperity.
Al-Badawi expressed his hope that the convening of the conference would contribute to drawing the broad outlines of a comprehensive political solution that includes all segments of the Syrian people, based on the rule of law and equal citizenship, and in a way that preserves Syria's unity and sovereignty.
He praised the final statement of the conference, which expressed the sincere desire of the participants to reach comprehensive political solutions, pointing out the importance of continuing such dialogues to enhance Syrian national consensus.
He stressed the GCC positions contained in the statement issued by the 46th extraordinary meeting of the GCC Ministerial Council, which stressed respect for Syria's sovereignty and independence, and support for a comprehensive political transition that meets the aspirations of the Syrian people, in addition to emphasizing national reconciliation as a pillar for rebuilding the state and its stability.
