Saudi Interior Minister heads delegation to 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety in Marrakech

Marrakech (UNA/SPA) - Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, Saudi Minister of Interior, today headed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's delegation participating in the 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety, which is being held in Marrakech, Kingdom of Morocco, under the patronage of King Mohammed VI of the Kingdom of Morocco.
During the conference, which was held in the presence of the Head of Government of the Kingdom of Morocco, Aziz Akhannouch, he delivered a speech in which he conveyed the greetings of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, to the participants, expressing his thanks to the King of the Kingdom of Morocco, Mohammed VI, for the kind invitation and the warm reception and hospitality.
He pointed out that the Kingdom appreciates the efforts made by the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco in holding this conference, which aims to enhance joint cooperation in the field of road safety, saving lives and addressing the challenges that prevent this.
Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud stressed that the Kingdom pays great attention to road safety as a public health issue and a security and economic necessity. Every year, more than 000 people in the world lose their lives in road accidents, and millions suffer from serious injuries that hinder their daily contributions to the development of themselves and their countries, with the importance of finding a mechanism to limit the number of people injured in these accidents in order to work on reducing them in the future.
He drew attention to the fact that the social, economic and health costs of injuries resulting from traffic accidents are invaluable, stressing the Kingdom’s commitment to confronting these challenges with determination and innovation, within the framework of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, and within the framework of sustainable and safe environments, in line with global road safety goals and the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety 2030-2021.
He touched on the Kingdom’s role in improving the level of traffic safety by implementing a number of advanced measures under direct instructions from the wise leadership, including the establishment of a committee at the ministerial level to handle the traffic improvement file; which, praise be to God, resulted in reducing the death rate resulting from traffic accidents over the past seven years by more than 50%.
The Minister of Interior stated that technology will play a pivotal role in road safety, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will benefit from traffic management systems supported by artificial intelligence and Internet of Things solutions to reduce road deaths and injuries and improve urban mobility, ensuring safer roads in the Kingdom.
The delegation participating in the conference includes Assistant Minister of Interior of Saudi Arabia Dr. Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al-Falih, Director General of Public Security Lieutenant General Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Bassami, Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the Kingdom of Morocco Dr. Sami bin Abdullah Al-Saleh, Director General of the Minister’s Office for Studies and Research Major General Khalid bin Ibrahim Al-Arwan, Secretary General of the Ministerial Committee for Traffic Safety Eng. Ajdal bin Mohammed Al-Salmi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Public Health Dr. Abdullah bin Mufreh Asiri, Director General of Legal Affairs and International Cooperation Ahmed bin Suleiman Al-Essa, and CEO of the National Center for Transport Safety Tay bin Abdulrahman Al-Shammari.
