Bissau (UNA) – His Excellency the Secretary-General of the Muslim World League, Chairman of the Muslim Scholars Association, Sheikh Dr. Muhammad bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa, inaugurated, under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, Mr. Umaro Sissoco Embalo, the “Tijān Al-Nūr Quranic Competition”, at the Lino Correa Stadium in the capital, Bissau.
His Eminence Dr. Al-Issa noted the importance of these competitions in igniting the spirit of competition among memorizers of the Book of God Almighty, and enhancing their role in society, stressing the League’s keenness to fulfill its duty towards supporting the memorization and learning of the Book of God.
The competition is the most prominent Quranic gathering of its kind in West Africa, and includes five branches: memorizing the entire Quran, memorizing 20 parts, 15 parts, 10 parts, and 5 parts. It also includes a number of accompanying programs, such as: a course on Quran recitation skills, a course on qualifying imams and teachers, a course on correcting recitation, and others.
In addition, the President of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau awarded His Excellency Dr. Al-Issa the highest honor granted by the Republic to Guinean and foreign figures, in appreciation of his religious diplomacy that promotes civilized peace and international cooperation.
