In a press statement, the Council members condemned the ongoing violent attacks on El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, including the recent attack on the Saudi Maternity Teaching Hospital in the city, which resulted in the deaths of more than 70 patients and their relatives, in addition to dozens of injuries.
The Council also renewed its demand for the Rapid Support Forces to stop the siege of the city, stressing the need to comply with Resolution No. 2736. It called for an immediate calming of the situation and a cessation of hostilities in El Fasher and the surrounding areas.
The Council members stressed the importance of protecting civilians and civilian infrastructure, in accordance with international humanitarian law and human rights, and expressed their deep concern about the humanitarian situation in El Fasher and the neighbouring Zamzam camp for displaced persons, where the population is suffering from an ongoing humanitarian crisis due to repeated displacement.
In conclusion, the Council called on the parties to the conflict to seek an immediate cessation of hostilities and find a sustainable solution through dialogue, stressing the need to adhere to the arms embargo measures stipulated in resolutions 1556 and 2750.
