Rome (UNA) – The President of the Italian Republic, Mr. Sergio Mattarella, received at the Presidential Palace in Rome, the Secretary-General of the Muslim World League, Chairman of the Muslim Scholars Association, His Eminence Sheikh Dr. Muhammad bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa.
During the meeting, a number of topics related to the importance of the effectiveness of religious contribution in supporting global peace efforts and enhancing friendship between peoples were discussed, based on the fact that many conflicts throughout human history are rooted in false religious interpretations.
Dr. Al-Issa stressed that the religion of Islam called for mutual understanding between nations and peoples, respect for human dignity, and peaceful coexistence, explaining the main features of the “Medina Document” and the “Makkah Document.”
He thanked him for his fair position on the Palestinian cause, especially his support for the inevitable option of a two-state solution.
He pointed out what he saw from the leaders of the Italian Islamic component in terms of the depth of religious and intellectual awareness, which reflects the truth of Islam, praising their pride in their national identity, respect for its constitution, and their ideal coexistence within the framework of the unity of Italian society and the concepts of a comprehensive state of citizenship, while respecting religious privacy.
The Italian President appreciated the efforts of the Muslim World League, led by its Secretary-General, to promote religious and cultural peace, praising the values of Islam in this regard, and stressing that extremism - whatever its source - represents only itself, and does not represent the cultural values that religions call for.
