The Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity begins its work by announcing the launch of the Arab Common Market

Cairo (UNA/KUNA) - The 15th session of the Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity began on Monday with the announcement of the launch of the Arab Common Electricity Market, with the participation of electricity ministers and their representatives from Arab countries, including the State of Kuwait.

In a speech delivered by Assistant Secretary-General for the Economic Sector Dr. Ali Al-Maliki at the beginning of the meeting, the Arab League considered the launch of the market a “historic event” that reflects the depth of joint Arab cooperation in the field of electricity.

Al-Maliki said that launching this market is a qualitative leap that contributes to enhancing the stability of electricity supplies, reducing costs, and supporting renewable energy investments.

He added that this step would also contribute to strengthening the position of Arab countries as a major source of clean energy globally, indicating that signing the agreement lays the foundation for the beginning of a new phase of Arab economic cooperation and integration and achieving sustainable development.
He explained that the launch of the market constitutes a common Arab vision to enhance cooperation in the field of energy and establishes a new phase of benefiting from joint capabilities in the production and exchange of electricity in a way that serves the interests of the Arab peoples.

The agreement was signed by Kuwait, the UAE, Palestine, Syria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Libya, Sudan, Yemen and Morocco.

The opening session of the 15th session witnessed the honoring of a number of figures and institutions that contributed to the launch of the common market, as the attending ministers praised the efforts of the technical teams and experts who worked over the past years to lay the foundations that led to this historic success.

The State of Kuwait is represented in the meeting by a delegation headed by Kuwait's Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States, Ambassador Talal Al-Mutairi, with the membership of Undersecretary of the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy Haitham Al-Ali, Engineer Ahmed Al-Sumairi, Advisor Abdulaziz Al-Ajmi, and Diplomatic Attaché Khaled Al-Makhial.
