The State of Qatar once again condemns the Israeli ban on UNRWA and stresses that it is a dangerous precedent towards the United Nations

Cairo (UNA/QNA) - The State of Qatar participated in the extraordinary session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the level of permanent delegates, held at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab League in Cairo, to discuss the dangerous illegal laws passed by the Israeli Knesset, which lead to banning the activities of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, and to discuss the necessary steps to mobilize international support to address them.

The State of Qatar was represented at the meeting by Ms. Maryam Ahmed Al Shaibi, Deputy Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the League of Arab States.

In her speech during the meeting, which was held yesterday at the request of Jordan, Ms. Mariam Ahmed Al-Shaibi, Deputy Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the League of Arab States, stressed the State of Qatar’s condemnation in the strongest terms of the adoption of illegal laws that prohibit UNRWA’s activities in the occupied Palestinian territories, noting that the State of Qatar considers this act a dangerous precedent towards the United Nations and multilateral action, and an insistence on the occupation’s continuation of the war of genocide it is waging against the defenseless Palestinian people, and a continuation of the systematic tyranny towards this UN agency and its vital humanitarian activities.

In this regard, she stressed that the Palestinian people inside the Gaza Strip, who have been facing catastrophic humanitarian conditions due to the ongoing brutal aggression for more than a year, will suffer more because of these unjust laws, which will inevitably lead to serious humanitarian and political consequences by depriving millions of Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, Jordan and Syria of essential UNRWA services, in addition to liquidating the Palestinian refugee issue and depriving them of their right guaranteed by international laws to return to their areas.

Ms. Mariam Ahmed Al-Shaibi renewed the State of Qatar's full support for UNRWA, based on its firm and supportive position towards the brotherly Palestinian people, foremost of which is their right to establish their independent state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. She stressed that these laws will not deter the State of Qatar from fulfilling its pledges to support UNRWA, the latest of which was a donation of more than one hundred million US dollars, adding that these Israeli laws will not affect the pivotal role played by Arab partners in addressing humanitarian crises and supporting Palestinian refugees.

The Deputy Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the League of Arab States pointed out that the continued Israeli occupation’s disdain for international laws, agreements and resolutions, its disregard for the activities and objectives of international organizations, and its persistence in committing crimes of murder and forced displacement against the Palestinians, requires regional and international solidarity to end the barbaric and brutal war on the Palestinian people and provide the necessary assistance, stressing standing by the Arab brothers in what is agreed upon regarding these unjust measures, and supporting and endorsing the outcomes of this emergency meeting, in support of the Palestinian brothers and loyalty to the Palestinian cause as the first Arab cause and the cause of the global human conscience.
