This came during his reception, at the Independence Palace, of the delegation of the Muslim Council of Elders, where he congratulated the Council on the official opening of its office in Indonesia, praising its organization of the “Religions and Climate Change” conference for Southeast Asian countries in Indonesia.

The Indonesian President expressed his happiness that the branch of the Council of Muslim Elders will work with scientific and religious institutions in Indonesia to spread and promote the values ​​of human brotherhood and harmony regionally and globally.

The Indonesian President praised the efforts of the Council of Muslim Elders, headed by Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and Chairman of the Council of Muslim Elders, in promoting peace and human coexistence, and the important initiative undertaken by the Council to crystallize a common vision for the leaders of religions and their symbols on the issue of climate change. He expressed his great belief in the importance of dialogue between Religions in the face of climate change, at the initiative of the Interfaith Pavilion during COP28.

For his part, Counselor Muhammad Abdul Salam, Secretary-General of the Council of Muslim Elders, and the Council delegation expressed the Council of Muslim Elders’ appreciation for the leadership and people of Indonesia.

They also thanked the Indonesian President for his country’s hosting of the regional branch of the Council of Muslim Elders, which represents an effective channel for communication with the countries of Southeast Asia, and for Indonesia’s hosting of the “Religions and Climate Change” conference and for its pioneering efforts in confronting the issue of climate change and the great contributions it has made in this field.
